New Year! (part 1)
Hhaha I know this is quite late to talk about my new year resolution since it's the 9th day of 2013! Yeah, 2013, here I come! :D But before I really start my journey of 2013, it's good to recap on what I did in 2012 ya? Confucius said that by three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest, and third by experience, which is the bitterest. Thus i shall be 'noble' for this post xD Haha, anyway I think 2012 is really a eventful year for me.
I started working in 2011 December and continued to work for 6+ months till around June. First to reflect on, working experience in DHL! Title: First working experience. I still remember my first day of work there, I reached lakeside super early, as you know, it's my first day of work, I'm filled with 'enthusiasm' and 'excitement'! I thought that it was my interview but it end up to be my first day of work! That was my first time to take the company bus to the workplace, haha I was like "How did they know which company's bus is theirs when there are so many buses". You will be used to it when you take that for some time! Yup, i was asked to sit at this stool and I waited for some time as the people gathered outside the office, at the warehouse area. :0 Ohya, i forgot to mention my first time taking a cargo lift, ehhh.. my first impression of it was that i'm going to take this lift everytime?!?! Cos the lift has got this stuffy smell, which is not really nice and it looks quite dirty :/ Then, i get to know my colleagues (haha a bit weird to call them colleagues eh, they are like korkors, jiejies, aunties and uncles to me :X ). Yuppp so i had bread for the first day cos i've no idea what to eat and it was so crowded and I was a loner cos I can't find anyone to eat with me. Quite sad huh, bread and water= my lunch. I started to worry for my future lunch :/ I have no idea how long i'll be eating bread and water for lunch but luckily, i started eating lunch with my colleagues. 다행~
I felt stupid sometimes during work because for different countries, there will be different ways of sorting the documents so sometimes I'll mixed them up :/ Other than that, the job is quite slack especially mondays-wednesdays for me, sometimes I would have to OT on Fridays though. I'll always look at the time and hope that it will reach 12 soon-- lunch time and after that i looked forward to 6pm--end of work. Sometimes it's so boring cos you have nothing to do at all, and you have no computers to surf net, but you can't use the phone to play cos the boss may see it, oh well. I started doodling on unused papers hahahaha! But you still have to concentrate on the printer while doodling because the pick slips may pop out of the printer any time and it will be bad if you miss it D: Nearing to the end of my work (Apr~?), my bestie-- printer was sick, paper always got stuck and i'll always have to try to dig out the paper in the printer. My new job scope, lol. Haha anyway, my favourite time is to have a laptop with me connected to the LAN cable so i can secretly surf the net when i've nothing to do. Facebook.com and twitter.com was banned, but guess what, i used m.facebook.com and it works! Like wth! I've no idea why i'll try m.facebook.com in the first place but I was happy that I can log on to facebook. The day passes really fast when you are busy, i quite like working at labelling department cos there is work and there is no big boss there hahaha! Waa i realise i'm quite long-winded, shall end this event soon.
But well, this work experience actually took up half of my 2012 leh! Hmm... so what i've learned, office politics? I wasn't involved in the office politics, well, i'm just a temporary part time staff. It was more of an eye-opener to me. Other than learning how to handle printers and how to use some features of excel and meeting new person/ making new friends, the rest of the thing I experienced, was an eye-opener (? is there such a word?). Basically, there are different cliques within the office/department. But, I can't understand, I mean won't it be easier and happier if everyone works together than 自相残杀 (probably at this stage I can't uds, ill probably understand next time?). Ohya, and the choice of word you used to address someone can infer that you belong to which clan/group/clique :O
I'm thankful of those who have helped me, taken care of me in the 6months+, thank you :D
2nd event! Title: Staplers in my mouth. Extraction of my 4 teeth and putting on braces! The experience was quite painful, both the physical extraction and the you-cant-eat-cos-of-braces-feel. But anyway, I didn't regret, so far for putting the braces cos i saw it's positive effect as well. I felt like there were a lot of staplers in my mouth when I had braces for like the first few weeks. Now, I'm pretty much used to it.
3rd event! Title: Moving on to the next stage of my (education) life. A-levels results released on the March 2nd! I was so happpy that I could went up to the stage and shook hands with Mrs Chan. Although I got a C for GP, but I was glad that the rest of my subjects were pretty well done (don't talk about PW, haha) and overall I was happy, since I've not been doing well for GP all this while, C, not bad to me alr la! After the results released, i will have to make a very important decision of my life, what course to take in uni and which uni. I chose dentistry but I did very badly for the interview, so there goes my dream to become a dentist! :/ But, at least I've tried :D And i got into Chemical Engineering, NUS.
4th event! Title: Enjoying the scenic view of JiangNan. Heheh, picture speaks a thousand words so facebook pictures! But i really enjoyed myself there, the nice weather and pretty scenery <3 p="p">
5th event! Title: Challenging myself. I applied for scholarship through brightsparks. However, my application was rather last minute and not very well prepared. And, I got two replies, I think those 2 organizations were pretty lenient with their acceptance criteria to the INTERVIEW (not the actual acceptance). Sometimes, I really admired my courage to go for the tea session and the interview! The Keppel tea session was actually quite an eye-opener to me, got to see the maritime industry, which I've only seen it in TV, the automated pick and pack system (courier services), and a plant to cool the building! It's quite interesting and I never regretted going, even though after the session, they didn't call me up for any interviews, but i got a free trip to tour around parts of SG i've never been! :D
The interview was with MOH, a scholarship to overseas uni to study healthcare related courses (dieticians/ physiotherapist etc.). I screwed up the interview cos they asked me since you are so interested in nutrition, can you remember some of the things you learnt in bio. I was like OMG, all my bio knowledge was errrr.... And i told them the small intestine is reallly looooooong, and they asked me what small intestine is for and I said it absorbs nutrition, LOL! Nvm, provide some jokes to them lor! Haha, didn't get in, as expected.
This is getting looong, so that's all for part 1.
